Evaluating the temporal representativeness of embodied energy data: A case study of higher education buildings

P. Pradeep Kumar et al.

Summary: The building sector consumes approximately 40-50% of the global energy supply, highlighting the importance of reducing energy consumption in buildings. This study evaluated the temporal variations in embodied energy intensities over 5-and 10-year periods, showing significant changes in both the type and quantity of energy sources embedded in buildings. Over the past 10 years, there has been a 36% reduction in total energy use, and fossil fuels contribute to 76% of this reduction.

The circular economy and the Green Jobs creation

Adam Sulich et al.

Summary: The circular economy is a proposed model for a more sustainable and durable economy, leading to the creation of green jobs in the environmental goods and services sector. This study investigates the EGSS among 28 EU countries from 2009 to 2019 using literature research and statistical analysis. Results provide a model showing how certain SDGs can support the CE and increase the number of green jobs, highlighting the need for uniform methods in measuring and forecasting the effects of green job creation.

Water, energy, and carbon dioxide footprints of the construction sector: A case study on developed and developing economies

Francesco Pomponi et al.

Summary: Buildings and construction are significant drivers of anthropogenic environmental effects, but their water footprint remains understudied. Analysis of construction sectors in India, Italy, South Africa, and the UK shows that there is no notable correlation between water and energy/carbon footprints in terms of contributions by sector. Developed economies exhibit a higher share of international water footprint compared to developing economies.

Life cycle embodied energy analysis of higher education buildings: A comparison between different LCI methodologies

V. Venkatraj et al.

Summary: The building construction sector consumes a significant amount of global energy, with embodied energy and operational energy making up the energy consumption. Calculating embodied energy is complex and unstandardized, leading to massive variations depending on the method used. The disaggregated input-output based hybrid approach is suggested to be more accurate in calculating embodied energy.

The role of natural resources, globalization, and renewable energy in testing the EKC hypothesis in MINT countries: new evidence from Method of Moments Quantile Regression approach

Noshaba Aziz et al.

Summary: The study identifies an Environmental Kuznets Curve between economic progress and carbon emissions. Natural resources increase CO2 emissions at the lowest quantile but become insignificant at the middle to high quantiles. Renewable energy helps to mitigate CO2 emissions, while globalization leads to expanded energy consumption and worsened environmental quality.
