Proposal of a new low-temperature thermodynamic cycle: 3E analysis and optimization of a solar pond integrated with fuel cell and thermoelectric generator

Farayi Musharavati et al.

Summary: The present research introduces a novel hybrid system that integrates a salinity gradient solar pond (SGSP), a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and a thermoelectric generator (TEG). By utilizing waste heat from PEMFC and recovering waste energy with TEG, the system's overall performance is improved. The study examines the energy, exergy, and economic performance of the proposed system and compares it with two alternative systems without TEG and PEMFC. A parametric study is conducted to analyze the impact of significant parameters on the system's performance. The results demonstrate the advantages of the integrated system and provide optimization strategies for achieving the best performance.

Effect of peripheral heat conduction in salt-gradient solar ponds

Abhishek Kumar et al.

Summary: The study shows that the heat extraction efficiency of a solar pond varies asymptotically with the insulation thickness on the side walls, with heat conduction in the middle layer playing a more significant role than radiative intensity. There is always a unique value of non-convective zone where the pond's performance becomes maximum under a given operating condition. Choosing a circular cross section for vertical-walled solar ponds is recommended for optimal performance.

Thermodynamic feasibility evaluation of an innovative salinity gradient solar ponds-based ORC using a zeotropic mixture as working fluid and LNG cold energy

A. H. Mosaffa et al.

Summary: The study examines the thermodynamic feasibility of a salinity gradient solar pond-based power generation system utilizing a dual-pressure evaporation organic Rankine cycle and liquefied natural gas cold energy. Transient analysis was conducted to ensure reliable results. The optimal thermal performance was achieved with the zeotropic mixture R245ca/R236ea, leading to a high energy efficiency in Urmia, Iran.

Detection of rainwater harvesting ponds by matching terrain attributes with hydrologic response

Juan D. Marquez et al.

Summary: Rainwater harvesting is a valuable strategy for mitigating the effects of global climate change. This study aims to develop a methodology for detecting ponds for rainwater harvesting through hydrological and geospatial analyses, as well as identifying relevant variables for establishing potential storage volume. The results show that the proposed methodology allows for the detection of potential ponds near cultivation and water demanding zones, reducing water supply distribution costs in semi-arid areas.
