Shaving electric bills with renewables? A multi-period pinch-based methodology for energy planning

Karen Gah Hie Kong et al.

Summary: As energy demand continues to rise with the increasing population, nations are focusing on sustainable energy resources to address environmental issues caused by carbon emissions. This paper develops a time-sliced optimization model for integrating renewable and fossil-based energy in the electric power system, aiming to reduce electricity bills and emissions. A case study in Malaysia demonstrates that the proposed framework can significantly decrease the total electricity bill by 35% and emissions by 71% through the use of solar PV.

Investigation of the Peer-to-Peer energy trading performances in a local community under the future climate change scenario in Sweden

Pei Huang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the impacts of climate change on energy sharing performance in solar PV power shared communities and analyzes energy trading performances through comparative scenarios of different PV ownerships and pricing strategies. The results show that future climate change is more beneficial to large energy use households, and a high energy trading price can improve the fairness of economic performances in the community.

Re-Designing GB's Electricity Market Design: A Conceptual Framework Which Recognises the Value of Distributed Energy Resources

Thomas Pownall et al.

Summary: The design of electricity markets determines the technologies, services and modes of operation that can access value, consequently shaping current and future electricity landscapes. This paper argues that Great Britain's electricity market design is insufficient in facilitating net zero emissions and proposes a new market design and institutional framework to address this issue. The proposed design includes a local balancing and coordinating market at each grid supply point and a distributed locational marginal pricing structure governed by distributed service providers.
