Utilization of Azadirachta indica biodiesel, ethanol and diesel blends for diesel engine applications with engine emission profile

T. Sathish et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the application of a blend of Azadirachta indica biofuel and ethanol in internal combustion engines. The results show that these blends exhibit higher brake thermal efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional diesel fuel.

Health effects of particulate matter in major Indian cities

N. Manojkumar et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the majority of Indian cities have PM concentrations exceeding India's ambient air quality standards, with peak concentrations observed post-monsoon and during winters. There are higher respiratory and cardiovascular hospital admissions in both male and female populations, and a significant number of deaths attributed to PM2.5.

Evaluating the Influence of Cetane Improver Additives on the Outcomes of a Diesel Engine Characteristics Fueled with Peppermint Oil Diesel Blend

Purushothaman Paneerselvam et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the impact of cetane improvers DEE and DTBP added to a peppermint oil blend on the combustion, performance and emission characteristics of a compression ignition engine. Results show that both DEE and DTBP can reduce NOx emissions, with DTBP being more effective in decreasing CO, HC, and smoke emissions. Additionally, the engine performance is reported to be higher for the P20 + DTBP blend.

A Study on Performance and Emission Characteristics of Diesel Engine Using Ricinus Communis (Castor Oil) Ethyl Esters

Munimathan Arunkumar et al.

Summary: Countries worldwide are turning to alternative fuels like biodiesel to reduce environmental pollution. This study focused on the properties of castor oil biodiesel and compared its performance on diesel engines at different engine loads and speeds. Results showed that B5 and B20 biodiesel samples had similar power output at 1500 rpm, with diesel fuel showing better control, while at 2000 rpm, B5 samples had increased power but B20 samples performed similarly to diesel fuel.

Pyrolysis plastic oil production and optimisation followed by maximum possible replacement of diesel with bio-oil/methanol blends in a CRDI engine

Murugan Mariappan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on extracting energy from plastic wastes for diesel fuel replacement. LDPE plastic wastes were converted into fuel and used in a diesel engine. Taguchi method was used to optimize engine parameters, and adding methanol and DEE significantly improved thermal efficiency.

Emission analysis of dual fuelled diesel engine

P. Sivamurugan et al.

Summary: Experimental results showed that biodiesel-Methane dual fuel had a significant reduction in hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions compared to neat biodiesel at a flow rate of 5 lpm. However, NOx emissions were found to be higher for Methane-biodiesel fueling due to an increase in combustion gas temperature at all flow rates.

Summary: Increasing compression ratio leads to higher peak cylinder pressure and heat release rates, while the introduction of exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) reduces these peaks. The brake thermal efficiency of D70H30 blend is lower than diesel, but improves at higher compression ratios without EGR.
