Configuring ecosystem strategies for digitally enabled process innovation: A framework for equipment suppliers in the process industries

Anmar Kamalaldin et al.

Summary: Digitalization provides new opportunities for equipment suppliers to support process industry firms' competitiveness through digitally enabled process innovation. However, challenges arise as suppliers must align with various actors in an extended ecosystem to deliver complex product-service software systems. Different industrial customer contexts require different ecosystem strategies, and key considerations include determining the role in the ecosystem and the coopetitive approach.

Exploring barriers to implementing product-service systems for home furnishings

Heather A. Schoonover et al.

Summary: The home furnishings leasing sector in Sweden has been increasingly engaged by companies and consumers, but has not been well explored in academic literature. Barriers such as financial concerns, product design, capabilities, relationships, end-users, and policy challenges need to be overcome through strategies like emphasizing added benefits, streamlining product choices, and partnering with other actors. This understanding of barriers and identification of opportunities can enhance the successful implementation of leasing business models and reduce the negative environmental impacts of home furnishings consumption.

Anastasia Tsvetkova et al.

Summary: This study examines the challenges and barriers encountered when introducing product-service-software systems (PSSS) to the market, using institutional theory and autonomous ships as a case study. The research identifies institutional barriers related to regulatory, normative, and cultural-cognitive pillars that affect the formation of ecosystem around PSSS. The main contribution is the analysis of early ecosystem dynamics and the mutual adaptation between PSSS value proposition and the structure of the incumbent ecosystem.

Product-service systems towards eco-effective production patterns: A Lean-Green design approach from a literature review

Suzana R. Moro et al.

Summary: Increased competition, evolving consumer paradigms, and environmental concerns are driving organizations to incorporate services into their offerings and align their strategies towards developing Product-Service Systems (PSS) that deliver value to consumers. To design new eco-efficient PSS, additional knowledge is required to streamline the design process and increase its effectiveness. Lean-Green approaches integrate value and efficiency in PSS solutions, which are closely linked to the sustainable attributes of PSS. This study aims to identify lean and green strategies for designing eco-efficient PSS through a literature review, categorizing Lean-Green strategies based on their potential for eco-efficiency and proposing a graphical representation to synthesize research findings. The proposed framework illustrates how enterprises can strategically utilize Lean-Green strategies to enhance value in PSS design, offering eco-effective solutions and leveraging sustainable production practices to enable sustainable consumption.
