House Price Capitalization of Stormwater Retention Basins: Evidence from Fresno-Clovis Metropolitan Area in California

Andres Jauregui et al.

Summary: This study extends the existing literature on the impact of stormwater retention basins on house prices and time on the market. The results show that properties located closer to a basin are sold at a discounted price compared to properties located farther away, but the impact is not linear. The study also finds that home buyers are willing to pay higher prices to be located closer to a basin under construction, but as the basin ages, property prices decrease. The study suggests that although stormwater basins provide benefits for the community, proximate households generally bear the cost, with larger discounts observed in low-income areas.

Impacts of air pollution on urban housing prices in China

Yifu Ou et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of pollution on urban housing prices in China, finding a negative correlation between PM2.5 levels and housing prices, which is more pronounced in larger cities. The effects of PM2.5 on the housing market vary over time, with different elasticities observed in different periods.

Estimating the impact of energy efficiency on housing prices in Germany: Does regional disparity matter?

Lisa Taruttis et al.

Summary: The German government aims to achieve a climate-neutral building stock by 2050, making the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings a top priority. This study finds a positive relationship between energy efficiency and housing values in German single-family homes, with regional disparities observed. The impact is weaker in large cities and stronger in rural regions. Furthermore, it is evident that nearly 98% of future energy cost savings are already reflected in higher housing values.

Summary: This study systematically explores the configurations of infrastructure, actors, tactics, and outcomes of recent opposition to energy transitions across seven carbon-intensive regions. It reveals significant variations in the politics of energy transitions in different countries and types of energy, which can be explained by differences in national institutions and their responses to global pressures.

Spatial heterogeneity in spillover effect of air pollution on housing prices: Evidence from China

Haiyong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study finds that the negative impact of cross-border air pollution from neighboring cities on housing prices is significant when the distance is less than 200 km, but weakens with increasing distance. Additionally, the spillover effect of air pollution is influenced by wind direction, and higher ventilation with lower environmental governance exacerbates the negative impact on housing prices.

Effect of time-varying exposure to air pollution on subjective well-being

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: Urban air pollution in China can significantly affect the subjective well-being of local residents, with long-term exposure having a more negative impact than short-term exposure. High urban green coverage and adequate public medical services can improve subjective well-being, while urban residents with lower personal expectations and higher trust in local government tend to have higher levels of subjective well-being.

Gustavo Ahumada et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of particulate matter on individual subjective well-being in Chile, finding that air pollution decreases people's well-being and Chileans are willing to pay a certain amount per month to improve air quality. The results are also beneficial for policy makers in justifying the implementation of policies aimed at controlling industrial emissions and traffic congestion, as well as increasing monitoring stations across Chile.

Summary: The proliferation of squatter settlements in many cities reflects increasing social inequality and residential segregation, but their effects on cities are not homogeneous. Improving squatter settlements benefits not only their residents but also high-income households, without causing significant rises in house prices in low-income neighborhoods.

Characterization of Ambient Particulate Matters in an Industry-Intensive Area in Central Taiwan

Hsing-Wang Li et al.

Summary: This study conducted measurements of atmospheric particulate matters (PMs) in an industry-intensive region in central Taiwan to investigate their characteristics and possible sources. The results showed that PMs were mainly sourced from iron and steelmaking industries, coal burning, vehicle exhausts, and high-tech industries. The study evaluated the mass concentration of PMs, analyzed water-soluble ions and metallic elements, and utilized principal component analysis (PCA) to identify potential sources.
