This study reported the densities and speeds of sound for binary mixtures of trans-cinnamaldehyde with 1-butanol, isobutanol, 1-pentanol, and isopentanol at different temperatures. The results provided insights into the interactions between the component molecules in the mixtures.
In the present study, densities (rho) and speeds of sound (u) of binary mixtures of trans-cinnamaldehyde (trans-CA) with 1-butanol (1-BuOH), isobutanol (i-BuOH), 1-pentanol (1-PtOH), isopentanol (i-PtOH) covering the entire composition range, at temperatures of (298.15, 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15) K and atmospheric pressure have been reported. Experimental densities and speeds of sound have been used to determine the excess volumes (VE), isentropic compressibilities (Kappa S), excess isentropic compressibilities (Kappa ES), excess speeds of sound (uE), excess intermolecular free length (LEf ), and excess acoustic impedance (ZE) at four different temperatures. The values of VE and uE are found to be positive for all mixtures at each temperature studied. The value of Kappa ES and LEf are negative over the wide range of composition for all the binary mixtures. The results have been used to understand the nature and extent of interactions like hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole interactions, dispersive forces and interstitial accommodation ensuing between component molecules in the mixtures. Further, the investigated excess properties have been fitted by a Redlich-Kister equation to derive the adjustable parameters and the corresponding standard deviations are computed.
