Neural Network Potential Energy Surfaces for Small Molecules and Reactions

Sergei Manzhos et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the development of neural network-based methods for constructing molecular potential energy surfaces that explicitly include all many-body contributions. Various approaches including single NN PES fitting and more complex methods are discussed, highlighting the effectiveness of NNs in building representations with low-dimensional functions and emerging tools for accurate PESs in relatively large molecular systems.

Four Generations of High-Dimensional Neural Network Potentials

Joerg Behler

Summary: Machine learning potentials have become an important tool in atomistic simulations over the past 25 years. The development of high-dimensional neural network potentials (HDNNPs) has allowed for the simulation of large systems with thousands of atoms, with continuous advancements leading to the emergence of fourth-generation HDNNPs. Despite some limitations, the future outlook for HDNNPs is promising with potential for further developments.

Path-integral approximations to quantum dynamics

Stuart C. Althorpe

Summary: This article reviews the recent extension of imaginary-time path-integral methods to simulate quantum dynamics, with a focus on single-surface Born-Oppenheimer dynamics using the infrared spectrum of water as an illustrative example. It also discusses other recent applications and practical techniques, as well as the limitations of current methods and their potential for future development.

Detection of two interstellar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons via spectral matched filtering

Brett A. McGuire et al.

Summary: Unidentified infrared emission bands are commonly attributed to PAH molecules, and in this study, two nitrile-group-functionalized PAHs were detected in the interstellar medium. The study also discusses potential pathways for gas-phase PAH formation from smaller organic precursor molecules.
