Styrene removal by surfactant-modified smectite group minerals: Efficiency and factors affecting adsorption/desorption

Jakub Matusik et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficiency of styrene adsorption/desorption by surfactant-modified smectites. The research highlighted the importance of specific surface area and cation exchange capacity of the host minerals in determining the adsorption capacity. The findings also showed that a surfactant to CEC ratio close to 1.0 was optimal for achieving the highest adsorption efficiency.

Removal of analgesics from aqueous solutions onto montmorillonite KSF

S. Vallova et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the potential of commercial montmorillonites in removing analgesic drugs from aqueous solutions. The organically modified montmorillonite demonstrated strong adsorption ability, especially exhibiting the best adsorption performance for diclofenac among the three analgesics studied.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of cryptomelane/montmorillonite composites

L. Vaculikova et al.

Summary: Manganese oxides are effective catalysts for the oxidation of VOCs, and MnO2/montmorillonite composites were prepared and characterized. The composites showed higher activity in toluene oxidation and the catalytic performance in ethanol combustion was influenced by the distribution of potassium between montmorillonites and cryptomelane.

Performance evaluation of organoclays for the amoxicillin retention in a dynamic context

Regis Guegan et al.

Summary: The study found that the hydraulic conductivity of organoclays with added surfactants increased by about two orders of magnitude in percolation experiments. These organoclays showed good adsorption capacity for the antibiotic AMX, but the increased permeability led to a shorter interaction time with the pharmaceutical, resulting in ineffective removal of the antibiotic.

Investigation of suitable precursors for manganese oxide catalysts in ethyl acetate oxidation

Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: The control of ethyl acetate emissions in the pharmaceutical industry is crucial for the environment. Three Mn2O3 catalysts were developed using different Mn precursors, with Mn2O3-Cl showing the highest catalytic activity. The amount of lattice oxygen species was found to have a close linear relationship with catalytic activity in ethyl acetate oxidation.
