The Development, Use, and Evaluation of Digital Games and Quizzes in an Introductory Course on Organic Chemistry for Preservice Chemistry Teachers

Jolanda Hermanns et al.

Summary: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the introductory course on organic chemistry was conducted online, and educational games and quizzes were developed and evaluated to enhance the learning experience. The evaluation revealed that students had not fully internalized the knowledge required for tasks in organic chemistry. However, the students highly rated the games and used them for exam preparation. The evaluation also highlighted the students' prior experiences with electronic devices and digital games, which could influence their assessment of the quizzes and games used in the study.
