Unveiling a key catalytic pocket for the ruthenium NHC-catalysed asymmetric heteroarene hydrogenation

Andrea Hamza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the active form and reaction mechanism of the chiral ruthenium(ii)bis-SINpEt complex in the hydrogenation of 2-methylbenzofuran. The flexible carbene ligands in the complex lead to the formation of a chiral pocket that interacts with the substrate in a lock-and-key fashion, controlling enantioselectivity. The findings provide insights for the rational design of chiral catalysts.

Metal-free carbocatalyst for room temperature acceptorless dehydrogenation of N-heterocycles

Haitao Hu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a metal-free carbocatalyst, nitrogen-assembly carbons (NCs), for acceptorless dehydrogenation of N-heterocycles even at ambient temperature, showing greater activity than transition metal-based catalysts. The unique structure of NCs allows them to work without any H-acceptor and exhibit great potential for completing the cycle of hydrogen storage.

AuPt bimetallic nanoalloys supported on SBA-15: A superior catalyst for quinoline selective hydrogenation in water

Jianbo Zhao et al.

Summary: The Au-Pt bimetallic nanoparticles immobilized on SBA-15 were prepared with uniform size and existing in the form of alloy structure, exhibiting higher activity and selectivity compared to monometallic catalysts. The observed properties were attributed to the synergic effect between Au and Pt, enhancing abilities of hydrogen dissociation and adsorption and activation of quinoline. This precise synthetic strategy provides a new and main approach for selective hydrogenations with high performance.

Understanding the promotional effects of trace doped Zn in Co/NC for efficient one-pot catalytic conversion of furfural to 2-methyl-tetrahydrofuran

Lei Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, selective conversion of furfural into 2-MTHF was achieved using Zn doped Co/NC catalysts. The catalyst with trace Zn dopant exhibited the best performance due to the improved catalytic activity through the presence of Zn in both the carbon support and Co nanoparticles. Theoretical calculations and experimental results demonstrated that the doping of Zn enhanced the dissociation of hydrogen and broke the C-OH bond of FOL, resulting in higher activity for hydrodeoxygenation reactions.
