A critical review on biofilm-based reactor systems for enhanced syngas fermentation processes

Burcu Gunes

Summary: Industrial growth based on sustainability increasingly emphasizes on replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources like syngas fermentation. Despite its advantages in energy efficiency and flexibility, challenges remain in improving mass transfer rates at the gas-liquid interface for widespread adoption. Research on biofilm reactors shows promising results in enhancing mass transfer rates and process stability for commercialization of sustainable biofuels and biochemicals.
