Versatile Soft Robot Gripper Enabled by Stiffness and Adhesion Tuning via Thermoplastic Composite

Ryan Coulson et al.

Summary: A novel stiffness and adhesion tuning gripper is developed using thermally induced phase change technology, showing significant increase in adhesion strength during pull-off tests. A finite element model is employed to simulate the behavior of the gripper, while pick-and-place demonstrations highlight its ability to delicately grasp objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights.

Inflatable Particle-Jammed Robotic Gripper Based on Integration of Positive Pressure and Partial Filling

Yanjie Wang et al.

Summary: This work proposed an inflatable particle-jamming gripper with a novel grasping strategy of integrating positive pressure and partial filling, showing promising grasping performance and excellent compliance and robustness. The gripper can achieve valid grasps even at a distance of 20mm from the gripper-center-axis, indicating its wide potential applications in industry and daily activities.

Enhancing the Universality of a Pneumatic Gripper via Continuously Adjustable Initial Grasp Postures

Yafeng Cui et al.

Summary: A pneumatically actuated soft-rigid hybrid multifinger gripper is proposed in this study, which has a wide gripping range by adjusting its initial grasp postures. The gripper, compact and lightweight, can successfully grasp objects with diameters ranging from 0.5 to 180 mm, lengths ranging from 10 to 325 mm, and the heaviest object it can grasp is 2.1 kg (more than five folds of its own weight). The results demonstrate the increased gripping range and enhanced universality of the gripper, which will expedite various applications in daily life and industry.

A Multi-Curvature, Variable Stiffness Soft Gripper for Enhanced Grasping Operations

Eun Jeong Song et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new multicurvature, variable-stiffness soft gripper which aims to overcome the limitations of existing grippers with regard to grasping functions. Inspired by the human phalanx, the gripper is designed to have multiple curvatures and variable stiffness, enhancing its dexterity in grasping objects in industrial environments.
