Effects of back-support exoskeleton use on gait performance and stability during level walking

Jang-Ho Park et al.

Summary: This study quantified the effects of wearing a passive BSE with different levels of supportive torque on gait performance and stability during level walking. The results showed that the external torque of the BSE may adversely affect gait step width, variability, and dynamic stability. This is significant for better design and practice guidelines to facilitate the safe adoption of BSEs in the workplace.

Effects of industrial back-support exoskeletons on body loading and user experience: an updated systematic review

Tjasa Kermavnar et al.

Summary: This study presents an updated systematic review of recent studies on industrial back-support exoskeletons, revealing their efficiency in reducing back-load and pointing out the need for further research in real work situations. The results indicate improvements in user endurance during lifting and static bending tasks, but a decline in performance during tasks requiring increased agility. Some side effects, such as increased abdominal/lower-limb muscle activity and changes in joint angles, were observed. Future field studies involving industrial workers are recommended to provide more comprehensive insights.

Effects of two passive back-support exoskeletons on postural balance during quiet stance and functional limits of stability

Jang-Ho Park et al.

Summary: The study found that using passive back-support exoskeletons (BSE) may affect postural balance, especially increasing the frequency and velocity of center-of-pressure during bipedal stance. However, using certain BSEs (such as LaevoTM) in unipedal stance may help improve postural balance, especially among males.
