Postharvest use of natamycin to control Alternaria rot on blueberry fruit caused by Alternaria alternata and A. arborescens

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: Alternaria rot caused by Alternaria alternata and A. arborescens is a major postharvest disease affecting blueberries in California. The effectiveness of natamycin as a postharvest treatment to control Alternaria rot was evaluated, with established baseline sensitivities in the two Alternaria species. Results showed that natamycin can be an effective tool for controlling postharvest Alternaria rot in blueberry, significantly reducing disease incidence and severity.

A review on new aspects of lipopeptide biosurfactant: Types, production, properties and its application in the bioremediation process

Femina C. Carolina et al.

Summary: The increasing search for renewable products from natural resources due to the toxicity of chemical counterparts has led to a rise in interest in biosurfactants. Microbial lipopeptides, with their low toxicity, efficient action, and good biodegradability, have become a focus for researchers in various industries. They are utilized for remediation of organic and inorganic pollutants, offering potential as a sustainable alternative to chemical surfactants if they can be produced at an industrial scale using low-cost substrates.

Endophytic Bacillus altitudinis Q7 from Ginkgo biloba inhibits the growth of Alternaria alternata in vitro and its inhibition mode of action

Mingqi Sun et al.

Summary: The study focused on the inhibitory mechanism of an endophytic bacterium Bacillus altitudinis Q7 on Alternaria alternata, with results showing that the cell membranes of Alternaria alternata were damaged, lipid peroxidation was enhanced, and antioxidant enzymes were significantly inhibited when exposed to Bacillus altitudinis Q7. The lipopeptides produced by Bacillus altitudinis Q7 showed high inhibitory effects on Alternaria alternata in vitro, making it a promising biocontrol strain with potential for practical applications.
