A multivalent T-antigen-based vaccine for Group A Streptococcus

Jacelyn M. S. Loh et al.

Summary: The study developed a multivalent vaccine TeeVax1, which showed protective efficacy and elicited robust antibody response in rabbits. By combining TeeVax1-3, it covered 21 T-antigens with a predicted vaccine coverage of over 95%. This demonstrates the potential of a T-antigen-based vaccine to prevent Group A Streptococcus infections.

Genetics, Structure, and Function of Group A Streptococcal Pili

Masanobu Nakata et al.

Summary: Group A Streptococcus is a human pathogen responsible for a wide range of infections, with pili and M protein playing crucial roles in antigenicity and virulence. The genetic and structural features of GAS pili have been extensively studied, highlighting their importance in pathogenesis and potential as vaccine antigens. Additionally, GAS pili contribute to tissue tropism, adhesion to host cells, biofilm formation, and evasion of the immune system in a serotype/strain-specific manner.

The RD2 Pathogenicity Island Modifies the Disease Potential of the Group A Streptococcus

Roshika Roshika et al.

Summary: The study found that serotype M28 isolates of group A Streptococcus (GAS) enhance their colonization ability in the female reproductive tract through the RD2 pathogenicity island, and introducing RD2 into other serotypes also increases colonization rates in mice. However, the impact of RD2 on survival and adherence to human vaginal epithelial cells varies depending on the serotype.
