Flexural damage response of symmetric cross-ply carbon fiber reinforced laminates: Effects of thickness and ply-scaling technique

M. A. Caminero et al.

Summary: Advanced fiber reinforced composite materials are important in various engineering applications due to their high specific stiffness and strength, however, the laminate thickness and scaling technique type have significant effects on the flexural response. Thicker laminates exhibit lower strength and strain to failure, but higher bending stiffness. Furthermore, introducing ply clustering has different effects on different configurations.

Tensile and flexural behavior of metal/CFRP hybrid laminated plates

Chenyu Zhou et al.

Summary: The study on metal/CFRP hybrid laminated plates showed that with increasing number of CFRP layers, the tensile strength increased while the tensile modulus decreased, and the bending strength increased while the bending modulus decreased. The numerical parametric study revealed that the tensile modulus and strength decreased with increasing number of 45 degrees CFRP layers.

Strength degradation and fractographic analysis of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite laminates with square/circular hole using scanning electron microscope micrographs

Savita Gupta et al.

Summary: The experimental study investigated the influence of stacking sequence, hole size, and hole shape on the tensile strength of carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite laminates. Results showed that changing the hole shape from circular to square led to an increase in tensile strength, while changing the stacking sequence and increasing hole size resulted in a reduction in open hole tensile strength.
