Investigation of a novel ring-cusp magnetically confined plasma bridge neutralizer

Linyuan Ren et al.

Summary: This article introduces a novel ring-cusp magnetically confined PBN technology to address the issues of low emission current density and short lifetime of traditional PBNs. By studying the effects of different operating parameters, the optimal operating conditions were proposed and experimentally validated to extract a stable electron current.

Low power thrust measurements of the water electrolysis Hall effect thruster

Alexander Schwertheim et al.

Summary: This study proposes modifying a Hall effect thruster to operate on the products of water electrolysis, utilizing the low cost and high storability of water. Experimental results showed that thrust, specific impulse, and thrust efficiency all increase linearly with power within a certain range. Changing the mass flow rate had little impact on thrust efficiency.

Plasma plume evolution of a capillary discharge based pulsed plasma thruster: An optical diagnosis study

Yanan Wang et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the plasma plume evolution process of a capillary discharge based pulsed plasma thruster using time-resolved imaging and optical emission spectroscopy. The study found that ionized particles and neutral particles were accelerated at different stages of the pulse, and the streaming velocity of the plasma plume was evaluated using the OTOF technique. Measurements showed that both ionized and neutral species could be effectively accelerated by gasdynamic forces.
