Genome-wide association study for meat tenderness in beef cattle identifies patterns of the genetic contribution in different post-mortem stages

Pablo Augusto de Souza Fonseca et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify the genetic contribution pattern to meat tenderness at different post-mortem periods, and candidate genomic regions associated with tenderness were discovered. The results showed that proteolysis related processes had the largest contribution to tenderness before 14 days post-mortem, while body composition characteristics in later stages also influenced meat tenderness.

Genomic prediction ability for feed efficiency traits using different models and pseudo-phenotypes under several validation strategies in Nelore cattle

L. C. Brunes et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in improving feed efficiency traits in cattle through genomic selection. This study evaluated the feasibility of implementing genomic selection for feed efficiency traits in Nelore cattle using different models and pseudo-phenotypes under validation strategies. The random cross-validation method showed higher prediction ability compared to EBV accuracy and age partitioning.

Genome-enabled prediction of meat and carcass traits using Bayesian regression, single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction and blending methods in Nelore cattle

F. B. Lopes et al.

Summary: This study assessed the accuracy of genomic prediction for carcass and meat quality traits in Nelore cattle using single- and multiple-trait approaches. The study showed that genomic information had an impact on genetic evaluations in beef cattle using the multiple-trait model, which was advantageous compared to the single-trait model.

Genomic Prediction Based on SNP Functional Annotation Using Imputed Whole-Genome Sequence Data in Korean Hanwoo Cattle

Bryan Irvine M. Lopez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the predictive performance of a customized 50k SNP panel for four carcass traits in commercial Hanwoo cattle by adding highly predictive variants from sequence data. Results showed that adding 3000 pre-selected variants from each trait significantly improved prediction accuracy, with gains of up to 9.9% for backfat thickness, 9.2% for carcass weight, 6.4% for longissimus muscle area, and 4.7% for marbling score. The strategy used to select variants based on functional annotation did not show a clear advantage compared to using whole-genome data, indicating that using WGS data remained more accurate.

Genomic prediction ability for carcass composition indicator traits in Nellore cattle

Rosiane P. Silva et al.

Summary: This study compared the genomic prediction ability for carcass composition indicator traits in Nellore cattle using different models. Results showed that Bayesian approaches were superior for visual scores traits, while the single-step GBLUP model performed well for carcass traits obtained by ultrasonography.
