Formation ability, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the Zr50Cu34Al8Ag8 amorphous alloys prepared by different mold materials

Shan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of cooling capacity on the properties of amorphous alloy samples was analyzed. The experimental results showed that the highest glass-forming ability was achieved with a copper mold, and the amorphous alloy obtained by suction casting with a high-purity graphite mold exhibited good thermal stability and mechanical properties.

Effect of cooling rate on fluidity and glass-forming ability of Zr-based amorphous alloys using different molds

Feilong Wang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the effect of cooling rate on fluidity and glass-forming ability of the Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 amorphous alloy, showing that the cooling capacity of the mold is the main factor influencing the flow length of the amorphous alloy melt, and the mold material has a certain influence on the glass-forming ability of the amorphous alloy.

Investigation of the Structural Heterogeneity and Corrosion Performance of the Annealed Fe-Based Metallic Glasses

Dandan Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of annealing at different temperatures on the structural heterogeneity, mechanical property, electrochemical behavior, and passive film characteristics of Fe-Cr-Mo-W-C-B-Y metallic glasses (MGs). Results showed that annealing below the glass transition temperature enhanced corrosion resistance by forming a protective passive film, while annealing in the supercooled liquid region led to destabilized passive film and deteriorated corrosion resistance. Structural heterogeneity plays a crucial role in tuning the corrosion performance of MGs.

Effect on microstructure and plastic deformation behavior of a Zr-based amorphous alloy by cooling rate control

Feilong Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of different cooling rates on the microstructure and compression deformation behavior of Zr41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10Be22.5 amorphous alloys, revealing the appearance of trace nanocrystals with decreased cooling rates and their impact on plasticity. The amount of free volume was found to mainly affect the plasticity of the amorphous alloy, while the elastic strain, yield strength, and compressive strength marginally changed with cooling rate, and plastic strain gradually increased. The study provides insights into how cooling rate influences the properties of amorphous alloys.
