Crack-resistant σ/FCC interfaces in the Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 high entropy alloy with the dispersed σ-phase

Donggyun You et al.

Summary: The morphology and size of the a-phase in Fe40Mn40Co10Cr10 non-equiatomic high entropy alloy play a significant role in its mechanical properties. Fine sigma-precipitates can increase strength without severe ductility loss, while coarsened sigma-phase leads to early failure. Controlling the size and dispersion of the sigma-phase to increase sigma/FCC interfaces is essential for developing HEAs with an excellent strength-ductility combination and damage tolerance.

Influence of Mo/Cr ratio on the lamellar microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast Al0.75CoCrFeNi compositionally complex alloys

Alex Asabre et al.

Summary: The microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Ni-Mo alloys were studied, and it was found that the variation of Mo content significantly influenced the organization and performance of the alloys. With increasing Mo content, the BCC phase gradually transformed into TCP phases, leading to an increase in microhardness and tensile strength. However, high Mo content made the alloys brittle and resulted in reduced strength at higher temperatures.

The synergistic addition of Al, Ti, Mo and W to strengthen the equimolar CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy via thermal-mechanical processing

Jiale Man et al.

Summary: In this study, the tensile mechanical properties and microstructures of (CoCrFeNi)((100-x))(WMo)(x) and (CoCrFeNi)((100-x-6))(WMo)(x)(Al Ti)(6) (x = 1, 3, and 5) HEAs were investigated. The results showed that thermal-mechanical processing enhanced the alloys with the precipitation of submicron TCP sigma phase and the addition of Al and Ti further strengthened the alloys through the formation of a heterogeneous microstructure. The synergistic addition of W, Mo, Al and Ti improved the mechanical property of the equimolar CoCrFeNi-HEA, with Ti playing a role in enhancing the alloy.

Investigation on microstructure heterogeneity of the HPDC AlSiMgMnCu alloy through 3D electron microscopy

Fei Liu et al.

Summary: The microstructural characteristics of HPDC AlSiMgMnCu alloys were studied using serial block-face scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the volume fractions of a-Fe phase, 13 phase, and Q phase were higher in the skin layer and central zone compared to the segregation band zone. Meanwhile, the volume fractions and sizes of the 0 phase were lower in the skin layer and central zone. The morphology of the phases varied in different regions, with the a-Fe phase showing a plate-like morphology in the skin layer.

Summary: This study demonstrates for the first time the effect of interstitial boron and boron-rich precipitate on the deformation mechanisms of FCC high-entropy alloys. Introducing interstitial boron atoms can transform the dominant deformation mechanism from dislocation slip to deformation twins, while the formation of borides leads to a reversion to dislocation slip.
