The corrosion behavior of Mg-Nd binary alloys in the harsh marine environment

Quantong Jiang et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of Mg-Nd binary alloys in the South China Sea environment showed that as the Nd-content increased, the weight loss rate decreased and mechanical strength reduced, leading to brittle fracture. The presence of sea salts in the atmospheric environment caused more severe electrochemical corrosion on the surface of the Mg-Nd alloys.

Huabao Yang et al.

Summary: The corrosion and discharge behavior of two alpha-Mg based Mg-Li alloys with different microstructural features were investigated. Grain boundaries were found to contribute equally to these processes and were preferentially attacked. The LAZ531 alloy showed high and steady discharge voltage at small discharge current density.

Tailoring the microstructure and improving the discharge properties of dilute Mg-Sn-Mn-Ca alloy as anode for Mg-air battery through homogenization prior to extrusion

Xiong-jie Gu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of homogenization treatment prior to extrusion on the microstructural characteristics and discharge properties of Mg-Sn-Mn-Ca alloy as an anode for Mg-air battery. The HPE alloy exhibited higher cell voltage and specific energy, as well as better discharge activity and stability compared to the Non-HPE alloy, indicating its potential as an attractive anode material for long-term storage and intermittent discharge in Mg-air battery applications.

Discharge properties of Mg-Sn-Y alloys as anodes for Mg-air batteries

Hua-bao Yang et al.

Summary: The microstructure of Mg-Sn-Y alloys, including small grain size, uniform distribution of small second phase particles, and specific grain orientation, plays a crucial role in determining their discharge properties in Mg-air batteries. The presence of effective cathodes like Sn3Y5 and MgSnY phases promotes micro-galvanic corrosion, leading to the dissolution of the Mg matrix during discharge process.

Micro-Alloyed Mg-Al-Mn-La Anode for Mg-Air Batteries

Yan Song et al.

Summary: The novel Mg-based micro-alloyed Mg-1Al-0.3Mn-0.3La anode shows enhanced discharge characteristics in an Mg-air battery, inhibiting hydrogen evolution and promoting rapid anode dissolution. The addition of La tunes the microstructure towards uniform dissolution, limiting chunk effect, and the intermetallic Al2La phase plays a critical role in oxidation product formation and peeling. Adoption of the Mg-1%Al-0.3%Mn-0.3%La anode improves voltage and energy density, making it a promising candidate for future practical applications.
