Effects of charge transfer band position and intensity on the photoluminescence properties of Ca1.9M2O7:0.1Eu3+ (M = Nb, Sb and Ta)

T. S. Sreena et al.

Summary: This study elucidates the effects of the position and intensity of the charge transfer band (CTB) on the photoluminescence properties of Eu3+ doped Ca2M2O7 (M = Nb, Sb and Ta) system. The position of the CTB depends on the electronegativity and coordination of the counter cation at the B-site. The results provide important insights for the design of rare earth activated phosphors using the factors of position and intensity of the charge transfer band.

Order and Disorder: Toward the Thermodynamically Stable α-BaMoO2F4 from the Metastable Polymorph

Hongil Jo et al.

Summary: A fully ordered noncentrosymmetric barium molybdenum oxyfluoride was synthesized through hydrothermal reaction, while a centrosymmetric polymorph with disorder was obtained at room temperature and later transformed into the stable phase. Kinetic studies revealed a constant dissolution/precipitation process leading to rearrangement of octahedra in the metastable phase to achieve a more stable orientation in the thermodynamically stable phase alpha-BaMoO2F4. The formation of stable phase was attributed to strong Mo-O pi-interactions induced by Ba2+ cations.

Nonlinear Optical Thermometry-A Novel Temperature Sensing Strategy via Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and Upconversion Luminescence in BaTiO3:Ho3+,Yb3+ Perovskite

Teng Zheng et al.

Summary: Nonlinear optical spectroscopy is a powerful tool for sensing intrinsic properties and system state functions, with strong dependence on physicochemical factors. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using SHG and UCL processes in BaTiO3:Ho3+,Yb3+ for optical temperature sensing, providing a novel strategy with high sensitivity. The intensity ratio between SHG and UCL shows a sigmoidal dependence on temperature, enabling the detection of phase transitions in systems.

Summary: A series of rare-earth metal cation-doped n=2 Aurivillius-type layered perovskites were synthesized and characterized, showing isostructural behavior and differences in second-harmonic generation efficiency, with structural analysis playing a key role in explaining the observed optical properties. Complete characterizations including spectroscopy analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and electronic structure calculations for the title materials were presented.
