Design and synthesis of thermosensitive block resin as carrier for immobilization of penicillin G acylase

Hongyi Tu et al.

Summary: A series of resins were prepared with a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer reaction, utilizing DEA, PHEMA, and PGMA as hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks, respectively, to immobilize PGA. By synthesizing a thermosensitive block resin PDEA-b-PHEMA-b-PGMA (DHGs), the effects of segment order on PGA performance were investigated. The carrier prepared with a monomer molar ratio of 100: 49: 36 showed the best loading capacity and enzyme activity recovery ratio for PGA, with an essential LCST value of 33 degrees C.

Modulation of Transaminase Activity by Encapsulation in Temperature-Sensitive Poly(N-acryloyl glycinamide) Hydrogels

Katrin Kappauf et al.

Summary: Smart hydrogels, specifically poly N-acryloyl glycinamide (pNAGA) hydrogels, have been explored as a potential matrix for immobilizing enzymes, with promising results in terms of immobilization efficiency and enzyme activity. The temperature-sensitive nature of pNAGA remains intact when used to immobilize the amine transaminase, resulting in a gradual deswelling effect as temperature decreases. Although enzyme activity is primarily temperature-controlled, immobilized BmTA shows higher deactivation rates compared to free BmTA, indicating a potential deactivating effect caused by the deswelling of the pNAGA gel.

Fructose and high fructose corn syrup: are they a two-edged sword?

Nasim Khorshidian et al.

Summary: High-fructose syrups are commonly used in the food industry, but their intake may have direct relationships with adverse health effects such as obesity and the metabolic syndrome, attracting negative attention recently. Studies have suggested potential correlations between high fructose-rich diet and negative effects, but generalizing these findings to high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is not certain due to using high concentrations of pure fructose in prior research. The advantages and possible disadvantages of HFCS application and consumption are currently challenging issues between nutritionists and food technologists.
