The impact of SSRIs on mortality and cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease and depression: systematic review and meta-analysis

Nuno Fernandes et al.

Summary: The use of SSRIs was associated with a significantly lower risk of myocardial infarction in patients with CAD and depression, with a 44% relative risk reduction in post-ACS patients. However, SSRIs did not show a statistically significant difference in terms of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, hospitalizations, angina, congestive heart failure, or stroke incidence. Further research with higher quality evidence is needed.
