Backscatter multiple wavelength digital holography for color micro-particle imaging

Ramesh Giri et al.

Summary: This work applies digital holography to capture color images of stationary micro-particles. By using three wavelengths and additive color mixing, the resulting color images resemble those obtained with a conventional microscope in white-light illumination mode. Simple speckle-noise suppression and white balance methods are employed to improve image quality, and a chromaticity analysis is applied for quantitative and objective differentiation of particles of different colors.

Determination of size and complex index of refraction of single particles with elastic light scattering

Mir Seliman Waez et al.

Summary: For spherical particles larger than approximately 5 µm, the differential scattering cross section shows weak dependence on the real and imaginary parts of the refractive index when integrated over specific angle ranges. By setting up a collection system for scattered light within these ranges, it becomes easier to determine particle properties such as diameter and refractive indices. The use of a diamond-shaped incident beam profile helps in accurately determining the position of the particle within the beam.

Measuring the complex forward-scattering amplitude of single particles by self-reference interferometry: CAS-v1 protocol

Nobuhiro Moteki

Summary: This study presents a theoretical and experimental basis for measuring the complex forward-scattering amplitude of single particles through self-reference interferometry. The proposed CAS-v1 protocol aims to utilize self-reference interferometry effectively for inline measurements of single sub- and super-micron particles, facilitating real-time particle measurements in various scientific fields.

Optical Characterization of Mineral Dust from the EAIIST Project with Digital Holography

Claudia Ravasio et al.

Summary: An optical approach based on Digital Holography was used to characterize single-particle mineral dust and micrometric particles in meltwater from Antarctic ice cores. By processing holograms, optical and morphological properties of individual dust grains were recovered. The study revealed significant deviations in particle shape from spherical, impacting the aerosol contribution to radiative forcing.
