Effects of Foliar Fertilization: a Review of Current Status and Future Perspectives

Junhao Niu et al.

Summary: The use of large amounts of chemical fertilizers in high-yield agriculture poses challenges such as low fertilizer utilization rates and soil degradation. Spraying chelated fertilizers on leaves can reduce overall fertilizer usage and improve efficiency. However, inorganic foliar fertilizers may hinder nutrient absorption in plants. Chelated foliar fertilizers play a critical role in improving element utilization efficiency and crop yield. Their effectiveness is influenced by various factors such as the molecular structure and chelating strength of the chelating agents.

Nutrient and salinity management for spinach production under sprinkler irrigation in the low desert region of California

Khaled M. Bali et al.

Summary: The study suggests that shallow saline groundwater has little impact on spinach yield, while a 50% increase in UAN-32 fertilizer rate significantly affects the mature spinach yield.

Improving photosynthesis to increase grain yield potential: an analysis of maize hybrids released in different years in China

Yanyan Yan et al.

Summary: Planting density significantly affects maize yield, with an optimal density leading to increased yield. High-yielding maize cultivars exhibit higher 1000-kernel weight, longer photosynthetic duration, higher chlorophyll content, and lower chlorophyll a/b ratio. An increase in leaf area per plant and leaf area index does not necessarily result in higher maize yield.

Understanding Maize Response to Nitrogen Limitation in Different Light Conditions for the Improvement of Photosynthesis

Aleksandra Urban et al.

Summary: The photosynthetic capacity of leaves is determined by nitrogen content, which is divided between soluble proteins and thylakoid membrane proteins. In C4 plants, the photosynthetic apparatus is partitioned between mesophyll cells and bundle sheath, with enzymes localized in a cell-specific manner. Changes in light intensity and nitrogen concentration influence nitrates content in leaves, affecting the activity of enzymes involved in nitrogen metabolism and ultimately reducing photosynthetic N use efficiency.

Evaluation of the Nutrient Composition of Maize in Different NPK Fertilizer Levels Based on Multivariate Method Analysis

Csaba Bojtor et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the nutrient composition of different parts of maize and the effect of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers on maize stalk. Nitrogen had the greatest impact on maize during the yield formation stage, indicating the maximum biomass production.
