Toughening modification of poly(lactic acid) using modified natural rubber

Wasan Tessanan et al.

Summary: The toughening modification of PLA was successfully achieved by incorporating modified natural rubber (MNR), which significantly improved fracture resistance, stretchability, and transparency of PLA. The high toughening efficiency of MNR for PLA is attributed to their good compatibility of the two phases.

An outlook on recent progress in poly(lactic acid): polymerization, modeling, and optimization

Geetu P. Paul et al.

Summary: Poly(lactic acid) has emerged as a capable biodegradable polymer which can be a suitable alternative to polyolefin. The synthesis methods of polycondensation of lactic acid and ring-opening polymerization of lactide have been extensively discussed in this study. Mathematical modeling has been proven to be an uncomplicated and significant approach to simulate the kinetic model for polymerization.

A novel biodegradable poly(propylene carbonate) with enhanced thermal and mechanical properties by incorporating tannic acid

Jianing Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a biodegradable poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) with improved thermo-oxidative stability and biodegradability was successfully prepared by incorporating tannin acid. The composite exhibits improvements in Young's modulus and yield strength due to the plentiful hydrogen bond between PPC and tannic acid (TA). The improved properties are attributed to the abundant polyphenol hydroxyl in TA, which enhances the hydrophilia of PPC/TA composites and constructs plentiful hydrogen bonds with PPC.

Influence of Ozonized Soybean Oil as a Biobased Plasticizer on the Toughness of Polylactic Acid

Kantima Chaochanchaikul et al.

Summary: "The study investigated the mechanism of enhancing toughness in polylactic acid (PLA) using a biobased plasticizer, ozonized soybean oil (OSBO). The findings showed that the increase in OSBO content led to improved elongation at break and impact strength, but reduced tensile strength of PLA. Additionally, the presence of OSBO enhanced the crystallization of PLA as the glass transition, crystallization, and melting temperatures decreased with increasing OSBO content."

Thermal behavior of PLA plasticized by commercial and cardanol-derived plasticizers and the effect on the mechanical properties

Antonio Greco et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal properties of poly(lactic acid) with different plasticizers, revealing that PLA plasticized with cardanol derivatives shows higher enthalpy relaxation below T-g, while PLA plasticized with PEG exhibits higher mobility above T-g. In terms of mechanical properties, PLA plasticized with ECA has a lower modulus but forms thicker crystals during crystallization, leading to a more significant increase in modulus in semicrystalline samples.

Adsorbability of Modified PBS Nanofiber Membrane to Heavy Metal Ions and Dyes

Mao Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the adsorption capacity of rhodamine-loaded PBS electrostatic spinning film for heavy metal ions and dyes, showing promising adsorption performance. Dynamic adsorption tests showed fast adsorption rates for CR and CV, with adsorption capacities of 111.2 and 83.0 mg/g within 10 seconds, while adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies indicated a transition from physical adsorption to chemisorption in the adsorption process.

Thermal behavior and shape memory properties of PCL blends film with PVC and PMMA polymers

Mustafa Ersin Pekdemir et al.

Summary: The shape memory behavior and characterizations of PCL blended with PVC and PMMA were studied in this research. It was found that blending PVC and PMMA with PCL affected the melting temperature and mass loss temperature of the blended polymers. Additionally, the lack of solubility between PCL and PMMA prevented shape recovery, while the PCL:PVC blend showed excellent strain recovery in the shape memory recovering test.
