Relationship Quality and Mental Health Among Sexual and Gender Minorities

Elissa L. Sarno et al.

Summary: The study found that higher relationship quality is associated with better mental health and substance use outcomes within romantic relationships among SMW TGD individuals. This supports relationship interventions geared towards improving relationship quality as a means of enhancing well-being over time.

Depression, Self-Esteem, and Resilience and its Relationship with Psychological Features of Sexuality among Transgender Men and Women from Brazil

Ramiro Figueiredo Catelan et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study investigated the association between depression, self-esteem, and resilience, and psychological features of sexuality in transgender men and women from Brazil. The results showed that lower levels of self-esteem and resilience were related to higher levels of sexual fear, sexual anxiety, sexual dissatisfaction, and sexual body image worries, while higher levels of depression were associated with sexual fear and sexual dissatisfaction. These findings suggest that negative mental health indicators may impair the sexual life of transgender individuals.

Joint position statement of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) and European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA) on the IOC framework on fairness, inclusion and non-discrimination based on gender identity and sex variations

Fabio Pigozzi et al.

Summary: The IOC has published a framework on fairness, inclusion, and non-discrimination based on gender identity and sex variations. However, the framework lacks consideration for medical and scientific issues and places the responsibility for gender eligibility and classification solely on International Federations (IFs) who may not have the capacity to implement it. This could result in either excluding all transgender or DSD athletes or having no eligibility rules, both of which have significant drawbacks and go against the Olympic charter and laws in many countries.

Psychological Wellbeing and Perceived Social Acceptance in Gender Diverse Individuals

Alessia Romani et al.

Summary: This study highlights the differences in psychological wellbeing between binary and gender diverse individuals, with gender diverse individuals experiencing less intense gender dysphoria but higher levels of depression and anxiety. It also shows that perceived discrimination and humiliation partially mediate depressive symptomatology in gender diverse individuals, and that gender diverse assigned male at birth (AMAB) individuals seek non-standard hormonal treatments more often than their binary counterparts.
