Computational model for low cycle fatigue analysis of lattice materials: Incorporating theory of critical distance with elastoplastic homogenization

Summary: A novel numerical framework for low cycle fatigue analysis of lattice materials is based on computational elastoplastic homogenization and the theory of critical distance. Representative volume elements and periodic boundary conditions are used to improve computational efficiency and eliminate boundary effects. The method is generic and applicable to periodic micro-architectured materials, with good correspondence between predicted and experimental fatigue lives for the auxetic lattice.

Summary: The rapid progress in additive manufacturing allows for the generation of complex structures customized for various applications. Characterizing the mechanical properties of lattice structures in design of structural parts involves understanding the selective laser melting process complexities, manufacturing imperfections, and microstructure influences. Through finite element simulations and digital image correlation, deeper insights into failure processes and comparisons between lattice structures and unit cell simulations with periodic boundary conditions have been gained.

Influence of relative density on quasi-static and fatigue failure of lattice structures in Ti6Al4V produced by laser powder bed fusion

Summary: The study analyzed the static and dynamic behaviors of Ti6Al4V lattice structures and the criteria defining lattice failure, designed an improved lattice structure to avoid manufacturing issues, and explored the influence of relative density on structural properties and macroscopic yield criteria. Additionally, a stiffness-based criterion was analyzed to improve the evaluation of lattice structure failure, and the impact of relative density on stiffness evolution was studied.
