Effects of deep cryogenic treatment for tungsten carbide-iron cemented carbide

Jeong-Han Lee et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that deep cryogenic treatment significantly impacts the mechanical properties of WC-Fe, with hardness increasing within 6 hours and then weakening after continued treatment for 12 hours, but recovering after treatment for more than 24 hours. The grain growth behavior of cemented carbide is related to the formation of secondary phases induced by dislocation motion for martensitic transformation.

Optimization of Cryogenic Process Parameters for the Minimization of Surface Residual Stress in Pure Iron Using Taguchi Design

Meng Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the Taguchi design was used to minimize surface stress of pure iron during cryogenic processing, and an exponential model was developed to predict residual stresses. By optimizing with genetic algorithm and mathematical model, the optimal cryogenic parameters were obtained, leading to a significant reduction in surface residual stress according to experimental results.

Effect of deep cryogenic treatment on surface chemistry and microstructure of selected high-speed steels

Patricia Jovicevic-Klug et al.

Summary: This study systematically analyzed the effects of deep cryogenic treatment on AISI M2, M3:2, and M35 steels using various techniques. It was found that DCT samples had sharper, smaller martensitic laths and significantly impacted the microstructure. The evaluation of surface oxidation states and oxygen absorbance in high-speed steels, along with depth profile XPS analysis, provided further insight into the dynamic effects of DCT on the overall microstructure and surface behavior of the selected steels.

Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on Internal Residual Stresses of Hydrogen-Resistant Steel

Fengxiang Shang et al.

Summary: The combined aging cryogenic and high-temperature treatment successfully reduced the internal residual stress in thin-walled hydrogen-resistant steel components by refining grain size and decreasing dislocation density. This treatment did not cause phase transformation or carbide precipitation, and decreased the internal residual stresses significantly.

Summary: The study examines the impact of DCT on multiphase steel, revealing the transformation of blocky RA and the competitive relationship between bainitic transformation and nanoscale carbide precipitation during tempering. The yield strength of the DCT-treated steels is significantly increased due to the precipitation of nanoscale carbides and the elimination of unstable RA, showing the correlation between thermal and mechanical stabilities of RA during DCT and tensile strain.
