Optimised redesign of reverse logistics network with multi-level capacity choices for household appliances

Ada Che et al.

Summary: This study redesigns the reverse logistics network of household appliances in China by introducing disassembly centers and three types of remanufacturing plants. By establishing a mathematical model and heuristic method to determine facility locations and capacities, the redesigned network is evaluated with an actual case. The results show a significant improvement in recycling rates, where almost all useful materials can be efficiently recycled compared to the traditional network.

Adaptive selection multi-objective optimization method for hybrid flow shop green scheduling under finite variable parameter constraints: case study

Zhifeng Liu et al.

Summary: An adaptive selection multi-objective optimization algorithm with preference (ASMOAP) was developed to address the challenges in production scheduling involving continuous and discrete processing stages in a hybrid flow shop. The algorithm transforms mandatory constraints of continuous processing stages into optimization objectives and includes an optimization preference to improve scheduling efficiency. The results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in solving hybrid flow shop scheduling problems and can lead to better feasible solutions while reducing energy consumption in practical production processes.

Bi-criteria formulation for green scheduling with unrelated parallel machines with sequence-dependent setup times

Luciano P. Cota et al.

Summary: In this study, the important role of machine scheduling in the manufacturing industry is discussed, focusing on power consumption in sequencing jobs with variable speed operation in machines. A mixed integer linear programming model and a novel math-heuristic algorithm are proposed for a green scheduling problem. Through a case study, it was found that the smart pool search method can achieve good approximations of the Pareto front with less computational effort in small to medium size instances.

A note on parallel-machine scheduling with controllable processing times and job-dependent learning effects

Shan-Shan Lin

Summary: This study examines an unrelated parallel-machine scheduling problem with controllable processing times and job-dependent learning effects, aiming to minimize the weighted sum of total completion time, total load, and total compression cost. The authors demonstrate that the problem can be solved in O(n(m+2)) time, where m and n represent the numbers of machines and jobs. Additionally, they outline how this technique can be applied to various single-machine scheduling problems with total criteria.

Summary: The study demonstrates that technological innovation, environmental regulation, industrial agglomeration, and intraindustry competition have varying impacts on green efficiency in the three fundamental sectors of China's industrial system. Policy opportunities for enhancing green efficiency in these sectors mainly lie in region-specific measures tailored to each sector's characteristics.
