In situ transmission electron microscopy investigation of electroplasticity in single crystal nickel

Xiaoqing Li et al.

Summary: The study utilized in situ TEM to observe nanostructural changes in single crystal nickel under mechanical and electrical stimuli to elucidate the mechanisms of electroplasticity. Findings indicate that pulsed electrical current delays stress concentration formation and leads to more uniform plasticity deformation.

An energy based modeling for the acoustic softening effect on the Hall-Petch behavior of pure titanium in ultrasonic vibration assisted micro-tension

Xinwei Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a mechanism was proposed suggesting heterogeneous changes in athermal dislocation dynamics at the microstructure level during ultrasonic vibration-assisted deformation. A model was developed to explain the acoustic softening effect on metals during plastic deformation by incorporating a power function of acoustic energy density into dislocation ejection work. Experimental results from UVA micro-tension tests on pure titanium specimens showed that ultrasonic vibration decreased the Hall-Petch slope, with the effect increasing with plastic deformation.

Summary: The study revealed that electropulsing enhances cross-slip and twinning during the mechanical deformation of Ti-Al (7% Al) alloy, preventing dislocations from localizing into planar slip bands and delaying the early failure of the alloy during tension.

Effects of electric current on the plastic deformation behavior of pure copper, iron, and titanium

C. Rudolf et al.

Summary: Uniaxial tension tests were conducted on pure polycrystalline copper, iron, and titanium specimens with varying current levels, showing non-thermal current effects in titanium but not in copper and iron. Potential mechanisms for the observed electrically-assisted deformation (EAD) effects in titanium were suggested, offering new avenues for research in understanding EAD of metals.

Evolution of microscopic strains, stresses, and dislocation density during in-situ tensile loading of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg alloy

X. X. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure, crystal lattice strains, and elastoplastic properties of LPBF AlSi10Mg alloy using high energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction technology. Average phase stresses are calculated to quantify load distribution, while the dislocation density and its evolution during plastic deformation are determined based on modified methods. The Al matrix exhibits a multistage strain hardening behavior associated with interactions between dislocations and cell boundary networks.
