A review on phytoremediation of contaminants in air, water and soil

Zihan Wei et al.

Summary: There is a global need to use plants to restore the ecological environment, but there is currently a lack of systematic review on phytoremediation mechanisms and parameters for environmental pollution. Plants mainly rely on their own metabolism and interactions with microorganisms to repair the ecological environment.

Urea-enhanced phytoremediation of cadmium with willow in pyrene and cadmium contaminated soil

Yepu Li et al.

Summary: The study found that urea application enhanced the phytoremediation of Cd and PYR contaminated soil by willow, particularly by increasing soil Cd accumulation and plant biomass. While urea decreased the accumulation of PYR in willow, it did not significantly affect the removal rate of PYR in soil.

Effect of water and fertilization management on Cd immobilization and bioavailability in Cd-polluted paddy soil

Xu Weijie et al.

Summary: The field trial investigated the remediation effects of two alkaline fertilizers and three water management techniques on Cd contaminated paddy soil, showing that organic fertilizer combined with continuous flooding was the most effective strategy. This treatment significantly reduced soil exchangeable Cd and Cd content in rice grains.

Mechanisms of Cd and Cu induced toxicity in human gastric epithelial cells: Oxidative stress, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis

Kun Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that co-exposure to Cd and Cu has a greater toxicity on human gastric epithelial cells, mainly through oxidative stress and cell cycle arrest leading to cell damage and apoptosis.

Application of DGT/DIFS to assess bioavailable Cd to maize and its release in agricultural soils

Rui Chen et al.

Summary: Tianjin, as an important maize production region in China, has a long history of soil cadmium contamination due to sewage irrigation. The study found that while soil samples in the region exceeded background Cd values, maize samples had Cd levels below pollution control values, possibly due to soil pH and organic matter content. DGT measurements of bioavailable Cd correlated well with Cd levels in maize grains.
