Inclusion complexed iloperidone loaded dissolving microneedles: Characterization, in-vitro study, and dermatopharmacokinetics

Rupali S. Bhadale et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the permeability of the antipsychotic drug iloperidone by incorporating it into dissolving microneedles, providing a new approach for the treatment of schizophrenia. Through various characterization and stability studies, the optimized microneedles were found to release the drug steadily over 24 hours and achieve the highest deposition of drugs in the skin. The findings suggest that dissolving microneedles can serve as an effective transdermal drug delivery platform.

Spatiotemporal trends of the global burden of melanoma in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019: Results from the 2019 global burden of disease study

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the latest magnitudes and temporal trends of melanoma burden at the national, regional, and global levels. The results showed that the incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of melanoma have been increasing globally, but with significant variations across regions. High burden areas are experiencing a continuing increase in incidence, indicating the need for targeted strategies to reduce the burden.

Selective delivery of silver nanoparticles for improved treatment of biofilm skin infection using bacteria-responsive microparticles loaded into dissolving microneedles

Andi Dian Permana et al.

Summary: This study explored the potential of utilizing silver nanoparticles synthesized using green tea extract as antibiofilm agents against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms. By incorporating silver nanoparticles into bacteria-responsive microparticles, the dermatokinetic profiles of silver nanoparticles were enhanced, leading to the eradication of bacterial bioburdens in an ex vivo biofilm model in rat skin. These findings demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of loading silver nanoparticles into responsive microparticles for improved antibiofilm activities.

Improving Dermal Delivery of Rose Bengal by Deformable Lipid Nanovesicles for Topical Treatment of Melanoma

Sara Demartis et al.

Summary: Cutaneous melanoma is an aggressive form of skin cancer with limited therapeutic options leading to increased mortality rates. This study proposes the use of deformable lipid nanovesicles for targeted dermal delivery of Rose Bengal to melanoma lesions, effectively eradicating them without the need for external stimuli. These transfersomes not only improve the penetration of RB into deeper skin layers but also protect it from degradation, showing potential as an alternative tool for fighting against primary melanoma lesions.

A Comprehensive Review of Microneedles: Types, Materials, Processes, Characterizations and Applications

Faisal Khaled Aldawood et al.

Summary: Drug delivery through the skin offers advantages such as avoiding hepatic metabolism and maintaining steady plasma concentration, but only a limited number of drugs with ideal properties can achieve therapeutic concentrations. Microneedles are a promising physical enhancement method to expand the spectrum of drugs for transdermal delivery. Different materials used for microneedles have implications for transdermal drug delivery, but challenges in sustained delivery, efficacy, cost-effective fabrication, and large-scale manufacturing remain. Microneedles have potential impact on drug delivery, vaccine delivery, disease diagnostics, and cosmetics applications.
