Serum Albumin Nanoparticles: Problems and Prospects

Viktoria Hornok

Summary: This paper summarizes the research results on serum albumin-based nanoparticles for drug delivery purposes, focusing on their preparation techniques, synthesis parameters, and successful clinical applications. Despite promising possibilities, products made from different types of albumin nanoparticles, with the exception of a few, have not been invented yet. The paper also discusses promising applications of serum albumin nanoparticles for various biomedical purposes, such as carriers, delivery systems, and contrast agents.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of different protective excipients on the morphology and physicochemical properties of bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanoparticles (NPs) during the drying process. The results showed that sucrose had a positive impact on NP properties, reducing aggregation and enhancing morphological parameters and ζ -potential.

The Development of the Innovative Synthesis Methodology of Albumin Nanoparticles Supported by Their Physicochemical, Cytotoxic and Hemolytic Evaluation

Sonia Kudlacik-Kramarczyk et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing albumin nanoparticles as carriers for controlled cytostatic delivery and evaluating their biological and physicochemical properties. The synthesis method for albumin particles involved salt-induced precipitation and the use of K3PO4 as a salting-out agent. By varying concentrations of protein and salting-out agent solutions, different sizes of albumin nanoparticles were obtained. The particles showed no cytotoxicity towards normal human dermal fibroblasts and minimal hemolytic properties against human erythrocytes.
