Effect of Obesity Surgery on Taste

Alhanouf S. Al-Alsheikh et al.

Summary: Obesity surgery has an impact on taste, especially in the perception and reward of sweetness. These effects may serve as underlying mechanisms for changes in food preferences, weight loss, and maintenance. However, the existing research results are inconsistent, and differences in time and surgical procedures may lead to variations in the outcomes.

The Neuro-Endo-Microbio-Ome Study: A Pilot Study of Neurobiological Alterations Pre- Versus Post-Bariatric Surgery

Khushbu Agarwal et al.

Summary: This pilot study investigated the neurological, gut microbiome, and plasma hormone changes following bariatric surgery. The results showed that surgical weight loss had a greater impact on brain and gut function compared to medical weight loss, resulting in decreased activation of food-related neural circuits. Additionally, there were phenotype differences in the interactions of microbiome, rsfMRI, and gut hormone features post-surgery.

Administration of Exendin-4 but not CCK alters lick responses and trial initiation to sucrose and intralipid during brief-access tests

Yada Treesukosol et al.

Summary: The study suggests that GLP-1, rather than CCK, plays a role in oral responsiveness to palatable stimuli. Furthermore, Ex-4-induced reductions were observed for both sucrose and intralipid.

Gastrointestinal peptides in eating-related disorders

Kimberly R. Smith et al.

Summary: Food intake is tightly regulated by homeostatic signals sensitive to metabolic needs to control body weight; peripherally-secreted gastrointestinal peptides play a key role in appetite regulation; hormone-based pharmacotherapies are available for the treatment of obesity and eating disorders.
