Understanding its biological and toxicological characteristics is essential for the development of nanomedicine and nanosafety. However, the dynamics of intracellular release and exchange of the protein corona from nanomaterials remains unclear, and the biological footprints of the nanoparticle-protein corona inside cells are not well understood. This study investigates the evolution of the intracellular protein corona along the endocytotic pathway and reveals its impact on cell metabolism.
