MicroRNA-489 Promotes the Apoptosis of Cardiac Muscle Cells in Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Based on Smart Healthcare

Wenhua Li et al.

Summary: With the development of information technology, the concept of smart healthcare has gained increasing attention. This study investigated the role of miR-489 in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) and found that miR-489 can promote apoptosis of cardiac muscle cells by inhibiting the SPIN1-mediated PI3K/AKT pathway. This research provides a potential therapeutic target for reducing myocardial cell apoptosis after ischemia-reperfusion.

The Role of microRNA-133 in Hemocyte Proliferation and Innate Immunity of Scylla paramamosain

Yunfei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers found that miR-133 is significantly up-regulated in mud crabs after infection with WSSV or V. parahaemolyticus. Knockdown of miR-133 increased the viral copy number and mortality rate in infected crabs, while also enhancing the expression of astakine. This indicates that miR-133 is involved in the immune response to viral or bacterial infection in mud crabs.

Global gene expression responses of Atlantic salmon skin to Moritella viscosa

Khalil Eslamloo et al.

Summary: This study characterized the transcriptome responses of Atlantic salmon skin infected with the pathogen Moritella viscosa. The results revealed massive and strong dysregulations in the transcriptome at the infection site, while effects beyond the lesion site were comparably subtle. The transcripts induced by M. viscosa were mainly involved in immune response-related pathways.

Expression Analysis in Atlantic Salmon Liver Reveals miRNAs Associated with Smoltification and Seawater Adaptation

Alice Shwe et al.

Summary: This study characterizes the expression of miRNAs in the liver of Atlantic salmon during the smoltification process and identifies potential target genes involved in important physiological processes such as energy metabolism, protein metabolism, circadian rhythm, stress response, and immune system regulation. The findings suggest that miRNAs play a crucial role in regulating the changes that occur during smoltification, and further functional assays are needed to validate the predicted target genes.

Cleaner fish in aquaculture: review on diseases and vaccination

Toni Erkinharju et al.

Summary: Controlling sea lice infestations is costly for farmers, with limited options available such as traditional chemotherapeutants and cleaner fish as the most effective method. The use of wild-caught mature fish as brood stock for farmed production poses biosecurity risks. Vaccine development for sea lice in fish is lagging behind the widespread use of aquaculture species.

microRNAstrand selection: Unwinding the rules

Jeffrey C. Medley et al.

Summary: miRNAs play a central role in regulating gene expression by targeting specific mRNAs for degradation or translational repression. The process of miRNA strand selection determines the specificity of miRISC towards its targets, and aberrant strand selection can lead to altered gene regulation in diseases. Understanding the rules governing miRNA strand selection can shed light on disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic interventions.
