Identification and characterization of high mobility group box 1 and high mobility group box 2 in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)

Lu Lu et al.

Summary: The study identified HMGB1 and HMGB2 in Acipenser baerii and found that these proteins play important roles in DNA damage repair, immune response, and inflammation. The expression of these proteins was detected in multiple tissues and was significantly induced after infection and PAMPs treatment, suggesting their involvement in the pathogenic infection process. This provides a basis for further understanding the mechanism of enteritis induced by Streptococcus iniae in Acipenser baerii.

Functional analysis and regulation mechanism of interferon gamma in macrophages of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea)

Dan Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the functional activities and regulation mechanism of large yellow croaker IFN-gamma in fish macrophages. The results showed that LcIFN-gamma expression was upregulated after LPS and poly(I:C) treatment, and rLcIFN-gamma enhanced phagocytic ability and induced M1 polarization in macrophages. Additionally, rLcIFN-gamma activated the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and upregulated IFN-stimulated gene expression. Furthermore, rLcIFN-gamma also activated other signaling cascades such as MAPK and AKT pathways in addition to the classical JAK-STAT pathway.

Genome-wide identification and analysis of scavenger receptors and their expression profiling in response to Edwardsiella tarda infection in Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)

Rui Li et al.

Summary: This study identified 19 scavenger receptor (SRs) family members in Japanese flounder using genome and transcriptome data. Phylogenetic and Ka/Ks analysis revealed five classes within the SRs genes and evidences of purified selection pressures. The study also found that SRs genes are severely conservative within different subfamilies based on gene structure, functional domain, and motif distribution analyses. Additionally, the study demonstrated the important roles of SRs genes in embryogenesis and innate immune response.

Identification, expression patterns, evolutionary characteristics and recombinant protein activities analysis of CD209 gene from Megalobrama amblycephala

Hujun Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, the MaCD209 gene of Megalobrama amblycephala was cloned and characterized. The gene was found to be highly expressed in the liver and heart and was significantly induced upon Aeromonas hydrophila infection. Recombinant MaCD209 protein showed excellent bacterial binding and agglutinative activities.

Characterization of a common carp intelectin gene with bacterial binding and agglutination activity

Jinyi Li et al.

Summary: The newly discovered cITLN is a potential player in intestinal mucosal immunity, able to agglutinate both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with a stronger effect on the former. This differs from previous expectations as it was not found to inhibit bacterial growth but rather enhance bacterial agglutination through binding to peptidoglycan (PGN).

Proteomic analysis capsule synthesis and redox mechanisms in the intracellular survival of group B Streptococcus in fish microglia

Silas Fernandes Eto et al.

Summary: The study found that GBS enhances synthesis of the polysaccharide capsule and uses various enzymes to scavenge reactive oxygen and nitrogen species produced by host cells during intracellular infection. While these virulence mechanisms are effective initially, they are unable to evade microglial responses, ultimately partially neutralizing the infection. The findings provide valuable insights into the intracellular survival mechanisms of GBS and potential for developing new drugs and vaccines targeting specific proteins.

Recruited CD68+CD206+- macrophages orchestrate graft immune tolerance to prompt xenogeneic-dentin matrix-based tooth root regeneration

Hui Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the importance of M2γ macrophages in tissue regeneration using xenogeneic extracellular matrix, showing their role in suppressing inflammation and promoting repair. Activation of PPARγ timely recruits M2 macrophages to alleviate inflammation and support tissue regeneration. By translating to a nonhuman primate model, the strategy effectively resists immune rejection, promoting graft-host synergistic integrity.

Microglia extracellular traps in Oreochromis niloticus infected with Weissella cibaria

Silas F. Eto et al.

Summary: This study provides the first description of the ability of Nile tilapia microglia to form extracellular traps (ETs) in response to Weissella cibaria infection. The findings show that ETs formation occurred 6 hours after stimulation with lipopolysaccharide, shedding light on the mechanism of ETs formation in teleost fish microglia and W. cibaria's ability to infect these cells.

Summary: A new rabbit fish macrophage (RFM) cell line was successfully established, showing high sensitivity to inflammation and thus serving as an ideal model for drug screening. The herbal extract of Scutellaria baicalensis (SBA) exhibited significant anti-inflammatory properties, indicating potential application in aquaculture.
