Little environmental adaptation and high stability of bacterial communities in rhizosphere rather than bulk soils in rice fields

Guangli Tian et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bacterial communities in the rhizosphere and bulk soils of a rice cropping experimental system in China, revealing significant differences in composition, co-occurrence patterns, environmental adaptations, and assembly processes. The rhizosphere bacterial communities showed higher stability, wider phylogenetic diversity, and lower functional redundancy compared to bulk soils. Deterministic processes were found to drive community assembly in bulk soils, while stochastic processes were more dominant in the rice rhizosphere, with available potassium playing a key role in determining the balance between stochasticity and determinism in both communities.

Ecological stability of microbial communities in Lake Donghu regulated by keystone taxa

Shengwei Liu et al.

Summary: This study used network analysis to investigate the seasonal stability of microbial communities in lake ecosystems. The results showed distinct differences in microbial networks among seasons, with the most complex network in autumn exhibiting the highest stability. Water temperature and pH were found to be significantly correlated with strong connecting structures among microbes, which impacted keystone taxa and destabilized microbial communities. Additionally, the presence of keystone taxa contributed to the stability of the networks, and their removal resulted in unstable networks. The specific composition of keystone taxa in different seasons was influenced by environmental filtering and interspecific interactions. These findings highlight the influence of seasonal variations in environmental factors on microbial networks and community stability.

Seasonal fluctuations in symbiotic bacteria and their role in environmental adaptation of the scleractinian coral Acropora pruinosa in high-latitude coral reef area of the South China Sea

Xiaopeng Yu et al.

Summary: The symbiotic bacterial communities in high-latitude corals exhibit significant seasonal variations, with rapid restructuring of community structures. Sea surface temperature is identified as the major contributor to microbial community structure variation. The high diversity and abundance of symbiotic bacteria under high temperatures help corals maintain physiological functions.

Stronger environmental adaptation of rare rather than abundant bacterioplankton in response to dredging in eutrophic Lake Nanhu (Wuhan, China)

Wenjie Wan et al.

Summary: Our study revealed that rare and abundant bacterioplankton showed significantly positive correlations with environmental factors and that rare taxa had broader environmental adaptation and stronger phylogenetic signals. After dredging, environmental adaptation of both rare and abundant taxa changed significantly, with higher functional redundancy in the abundant bacterioplankton.

Climate warming enhances microbial network complexity and stability

Mengting Maggie Yuan et al.

Summary: The authors studied the impact of long-term experimental warming on the complexity and stability of molecular ecological networks in grassland soil microbial communities. The results show that warming increased network complexity and stability, emphasizing the importance of preserving microbial interactions for ecosystem management in the face of climate change.

Dynamic and Assembly of Benthic Bacterial Community in an Industrial-Scale In-Pond Raceway Recirculating Culture System

Yiran Hou et al.

Summary: The study found that the benthic microbial communities in the purification areas of IPRS may not be affected by deposited waste, forming a more stable community driven mainly by stochastic processes. However, at the end of the culturing stage, the microbial communities in the purification area showed potentially inhibited organic matter degradation and decreased carbon and sulfur cycling abilities, indicating the need for further optimization and improvement of the IPRS, especially the purification area.

Environmental filtering dominates bacterioplankton community assembly in a highly urbanized estuarine ecosystem

Lei Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the bacterioplankton community structure in the Pearl River Estuarine system through 16S rRNA sequencing, revealing significant seasonal and spatial variations. The research identified different bacterial abundances in the wet and dry seasons, with environmental factors playing a dominant role in determining the distribution of bacterioplankton composition in this urbanized estuarine ecosystem.
