Genome-Wide Identification and Characterization of SET Domain Family Genes in Brassica napus L.

Sarfraz Sehrish et al.

Summary: This study identified 122 SDGs in the B. napus genome through genome-wide analysis. BnSDGs were classified into seven classes and segmental duplication played a role in their evolution. BnSDGs were closely associated with histone and non-histone methylation and stress response, and they were important for plant development.

Application of beet sugar byproducts improves sugar beet biofortification in saline soils and reduces sugar losses in beet sugar processing

Fahad Alotaibi et al.

Summary: The study found that the application of treated filter cake in saline soils significantly improved sugar beet biofortification and reduced sugar losses during beet sugar processing. Treated filter cake decreased K%, Na%, and alpha-amino-N content in the soil, while enhancing sucrose content and quality index in beet roots, leading to an increase in recoverable sugar yield. Linear regression analysis showed that reducing soil Na+ content and increasing Ca2+ content increased the quality index and sugar loss yield. Treated filter cake shows promise as an amendment for saline soil remediation to improve sugar beet biofortification and reduce sugar losses.

Variation of PHT families adapts salt cress to phosphate limitation under salinity

Sulian Lv et al.

Summary: Salt cress display relatively high phosphate use efficiency in its natural habitat, with Phosphate Transporters playing critical roles in phosphate acquisition and homeostasis. Comparative study of PHT families between salt cress and Arabidopsis revealed more gene copies and divergent transcriptional regulation in salt cress, contributing to its adaptation to salinity and phosphate limitation.

Recycling of beet sugar byproducts and wastes enhances sugar beet productivity and salt redistribution in saline soils

Maha Aljabri et al.

Summary: Under saline soil conditions, applying treated beet sugar filter cake and molasses can enhance the root length, diameter, and leaf area of sugar beet, increase sugar content and root yield, leading to the highest recoverable sugar yield. Increasing the availability of Ca2+ or K content in the soil by applying soil amendments and molasses improves root yield, quality index, and recoverable sugar yield of sugar beet.

Exogenous boron alleviates growth inhibition by NaCl stress by reducing Cl- uptake in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris)

Xinxiu Dong et al.

Summary: This study showed that application of 750μM boron mitigated the growth inhibition of sugar beet seedlings caused by 300mM NaCl and reduced the Cl- content in the plants. Boron upregulated the expression of CLC-b, CLC-c, CLC-f genes and downregulated the expression of NIP5, NIP6, and AKT1 under NaCl stress. These results suggest that exogenous boron regulates Cl- transport in sugar beet seedlings under NaCl stress.

Victoria Vitali et al.

Summary: Soil salinity reduces root hydraulic conductivity of plant species. This study on red beet seedlings exposed to NaCl concentrations found a bimodal response in L-pr, indicating a dominant cell-to-cell pathway in root hydraulic adjustment.

High Salinity Inhibits Soil Bacterial Community Mediating Nitrogen Cycling

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of high salinity on bacterial community composition and key biogeochemical processes in salinized agricultural soils, demonstrating that high salinity significantly decreased bacterial diversity, altered bacterial community composition, and destabilized the bacterial network. Variable selection played a role in mediating bacterial community assembly within saline soils, and high salinity inhibited soil bacterial community in mediating nitrogen turnover. Understanding the effect of salinity on soil bacterial community is crucial for managing saline soils and maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Summary: A series of micro-mesoporous activated carbons were prepared from sugar beet residue by KOH chemical activation for Cr(vi) removal. The activated carbons exhibited excellent adsorption performance, reaching a maximum Cr(vi) adsorption capacity of 163.7 mg/g. The adsorption isotherm was best described by the Langmuir isotherm model, and the adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model.
