On the biological activity of cytokinin free bases and their ribosides

Georgy A. Romanov et al.

Summary: The free bases of cytokinins are the biologically active forms of the hormone, while cytokinin ribosides function solely as transport forms without their own biological activity.

Comparative Analysis of Enzymatic Transglycosylation Using E. coli Nucleoside Phosphorylases: A Synthetic Concept for the Preparation of Purine Modified 2′-Deoxyribonucleosides from Ribonucleosides

Mikhail S. Drenichev et al.

Summary: A comparative analysis was conducted on the transglycosylation conditions catalyzed by E. coli nucleoside phosphorylases, leading to the formation of 2'-deoxynucleosides. The study demonstrated that maximal yields of modified 2'-deoxynucleosides can be achieved with a slight excess of carbohydrate residue donor nucleoside and a four-fold lack of phosphate.

Arrow of Time, Entropy, and Protein Folding: Holistic View on Biochirality

Victor V. Dyakin et al.

Summary: The paper discusses the universal phenomenon of chirality and its connection to protein aging and organism aging. It emphasizes the importance of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and the role of phosphorylation in maintaining and reshaping the system. The broader understanding of protein folding, including the impact of spontaneous racemization, has implications for experimental design in chiral proteomics.

A Modified Method for Quantification of Cytokinin-Receptor Binding Using Isolated Plant Microsomes Enriched with Cognate Transmembrane Receptors

E. M. Savelieva et al.

Summary: We propose a modified method for obtaining plant microsomes and validate the feasibility of the homologous method. The modified method is simpler and more efficient, saving time and reagents. The experimental results demonstrate that this method can be used for studying membrane-bound phytohormone receptors.

MoloVol: an easy-to-use program for analyzing cavities, volumes and surface areas of chemical structures

Jasmin B. Maglic et al.

Summary: Cavities, which are commonly found in chemical structures across various fields, play important roles in encapsulation, transport, and transformation of molecules. To accurately estimate and visualize the size and shape of cavities, researchers have developed a user-parametrizable open-source software called MoloVol. This software utilizes up to two spherical probes to define cavities, surfaces, and volumes, and combines octree data structure with voxel-partitioned space for efficient calculations. MoloVol provides a user-friendly graphic interface and a command-line interface for high-throughput calculations, and is available on multiple operating systems.

Cytokinin Perception in Ancient Plants beyond Angiospermae

Sergey N. Lomin et al.

Summary: The study reveals significant differences in the properties of cytokinin perception apparatus in early-divergent plant species. As land plants evolved, there was a diversification in the ligand specificity of various CHKs, leading to a steadily increasing preference for different cytokinins. This distinct preference for individual receptors to different cytokinin versions culminated in vascular plants, especially angiosperms.

Chirality and the Origin of Life

Ferdinand Devinsky

Summary: The homochirality of biomolecules plays a crucial role in the origin and evolution of life, with all living creatures on Earth exhibiting chirality. The origin of life may involve various factors such as the presence of chirality in the early Universe, choices made in forms of life, and the impact of factors like heavy neutrinos and dark matter.

The adjuvant activity of two urea derivatives on cytokinins: an example of serendipitous dual effect

Federica Brunoni et al.

Summary: This study investigated the action spectrum of two urea derivatives and their possible adjuvant activity on cytokinins. The experimental results suggest that these compounds may have a dual activity: blocking the conformational re-adaption of the cytokinin receptor CRE1/AHK4 and inhibiting the activity of cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase, potentially enhancing the kinase action of cytokinins and preventing their cleavage.
