Urinary metabolomics of HCV patients with severe liver fibrosis before and during the sustained virologic response achieved by direct acting antiviral treatment

Elisa Biliotti et al.

Summary: "The study characterizes the urinary metabolic profile of HCV-induced severe liver fibrosis and metabolic changes induced by DAAs and HCV clearance. Results show that urinary metabolites associated with oxidative damage in patients with severe liver fibrosis are restored after HCV clearance, indicating potential for optimizing metabolic care. Additionally, interim metabolites of leucine, valine, glycine, and choline may serve as biomarkers of systemic effects of DAAs."

Summary: In this real-life GT3 cohort, the majority of treatment failures carried resistant variants with NS5A-RASs, with the most common being Y93H. The presence of natural NS5A-RASs before treatment was associated with treatment failure.

Summary: This study investigates the molecular mechanisms associated with NAFLD development and oxidative stress due to a high-fat diet. Results show that the high-fat diet in rabbits led to signs of NAFLD and altered purine metabolism, indicating a compensation mechanism in response to oxidative stress.
