Molecular characterization and pathogenicity of novel Malaysian chicken astrovirus isolates

Summary: This study characterized the Malaysian isolates of Chicken astrovirus (CAstV) and suggested assigning them to a new subgroup within group B. Pathogenicity study showed that infected birds exhibited lethargy, diarrhea, and growth retardation, along with lymphocytic aggregates in the duodenum and tubular degeneration in the intestines and kidneys.

Isolation and phylogenetic analysis of goose astrovirus type 1 from goslings with gout in Jiangxi province, China

Summary: This study investigated the presence of GoAstV-1 in gout goslings from different farms in Jiangxi province, China. The results showed that GoAstV-1 mono-infection rate was 32.08%, and the co-infection rate of GoAstV-1 with GoAstV-2 was 12.28% in gout goslings. A GoAstV-1 strain, JXGZ, was successfully isolated from the visceral tissue and underwent genome sequencing and analysis. Phylogenetic analysis showed that JXGZ was closely related to GoAstV-1 and clustered within the GoAstV-1 group.

The results showed that high protein and low fiber diets increased the risk of gout and worsened renal function. Increasing fiber levels promoted the growth of probiotics and alleviated gut dysbiosis caused by high protein diets.

Identification and genomic characterization of emerging goose astrovirus in central China, 2020

Summary: Astroviruses, particularly the goose astrovirus (GAstV) outbreaks, pose great threats to public health and the poultry industry. Two virulent GAstV strains were isolated from two different goose farms in central China, showing signs of evolving towards more complicated and various directions. The viruses might have derived from weak goose embryos via vertical transmission, highlighting the importance of understanding the genetic characteristics for developing effective preventive measures and control strategies.

Surveillance and genetic diversity analysis of avian astrovirus in China

First Identification and Genetic Characterization of a Novel Duck Astrovirus in Ducklings in China

Pathogenicity of novel goose-origin astrovirus causing gout in goslings
