Effects of Electron Beam Irradiation on 3D-Printed Biopolymers for Bone Tissue Engineering

Conrad Mastalerz et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that four-dimensional printing shows great promise in controlling the biodegradation rate of scaffolds by changing the structure and properties under external stimuli. By mixing poly(lactic acid) and poly(caprolactone) with hydroxyapatite, bio-composite materials were prepared using melt extrusion and shaped with a 3D printer, offering a novel approach for bone tissue engineering and other medical applications.

Composites Based on Hydroxyapatite and Whey Protein Isolate for Applications in Bone Regeneration

Dagmara Slota et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the preparation of organic-inorganic hydrogel materials based on whey protein isolate reinforced with nano-HAp powder. Physicochemical analysis and in vitro tests showed that the composite hydrogels can form new layers of apatite in vivo, exhibit no cytotoxicity towards L-929 mouse fibroblasts, and stimulate monocytes via NF-kappa B induction.

SCOPE 2021: a new scorecard for osteoporosis in Europe

John A. Kanis et al.

Summary: The SCOPE project aimed to raise awareness of osteoporosis care in Europe and identify gaps in the provision of fracture prevention. The scorecard highlighted differences in fracture risk and inconsistencies in policy frameworks and service provision across EU27+2 countries. The use of a traffic light system helped to synthesize and present the data in a clear and accessible manner.
