A WRKY transcription factor, PyWRKY75, enhanced cadmium accumulation and tolerance in poplar

Xiaolu Wu et al.

Summary: This study isolated and cloned the PyWRKY75 gene from Populus yunnanensis and verified its functionality in poplar under Cd stress. The results showed that the transgenic poplar exhibited better growth, Cd absorption and accumulation, as well as antioxidant capacity compared to the wild type. These findings provide a scientific basis for the use of transgenic plants in Cd pollution remediation.

GhWRKY1-like, a WRKY transcription factor, mediates drought tolerance in Arabidopsis via modulating ABA biosynthesis

Qin Hu et al.

Summary: This study identified the WRKY transcription factor GhWRKY1-like as a positive regulator of drought tolerance in Arabidopsis by manipulating ABA biosynthesis. GhWRKY1-like can interact with promoters of key enzymes involved in ABA biosynthesis and promote their expression, enhancing drought tolerance in plants.

The PalWRKY77 transcription factor negatively regulates salt tolerance and abscisic acid signaling in Populus

Yuanzhong Jiang et al.

Summary: The research revealed that the gene PalWRKY77 in poplar is repressed under salt stress, reducing salt tolerance in the plant. Overexpression of PalNAC002 and PalRD26 genes, however, can increase salt tolerance in transgenic poplars.

Dehydration-Induced WRKY Transcriptional Factor MfWRKY70 of Myrothamnus flabellifolia Enhanced Drought and Salinity Tolerance in Arabidopsis

Xiang-Ying Xiang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MfWRKY70 plays a crucial role in enhancing drought, osmotic, and salinity stress tolerance in Arabidopsis plants by promoting root growth, water retention, and antioxidant enzyme system, as well as maintaining ROS homeostasis and membrane-lipid stability under stress conditions. Additionally, the overexpression of MfWRKY70 positively regulated the expression of stress-associated genes in Arabidopsis, suggesting that MfWRKY70 may act as a potential gene for improving drought and salinity tolerance in plants.
