Role of CD44 isoforms in epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity and metastasis

Mark Primeaux et al.

Summary: Cellular plasticity is crucial for cancer progression, metastasis, and treatment resistance. The concepts of stemness and epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity in cancer reflect the cancer cells' ability to adopt and adapt developmental programs to enhance survival and growth. CD44, a cell adhesion molecule, is not only a widely accepted marker for cancer stem cells, but also a key player in regulating both stemness and epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity. Understanding the dynamics and effects of CD44 isoform expressions in cancer can provide valuable insights for future research and therapeutic interventions.

Heterogeneity of CTC contributes to the organotropism of breast cancer

Tao Yu et al.

Summary: This article discusses the relationship between the heterogeneity of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and the progression and prognosis of breast cancer, dividing them into different subtypes for characterization. By utilizing the "seed and soil" model, the study further explores the connection between the heterogeneity of CTCs and the organ-specific metastasis of breast cancer. It is speculated that CTCs may not only express their genetic potential, but also interact with the surrounding environment to regulate the organ-specific metastases of breast cancer.

Differences between the quality aspects of various generic and branded docetaxel formulations

Chen Yiding et al.

Summary: Generic docetaxel formulations may lead to increased toxicities compared to branded drugs, potentially due to inadequate active drug content and high levels of impurities in the formulation. Ensuring patient safety with docetaxel formulations is crucial in light of potential adverse events.

Circulating tumour cells at baseline and late phase of treatment provide prognostic value in breast cancer

Shuyun Pang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the prognostic value of the timing of circulating breast tumour cell measurement during treatment. Surgery and chemotherapy affected the prevalence of CTCs, leading to different prognostic relevance of CTCs at different treatment stages. CTCs detected at baseline or in the late phase of treatment are preferable for prognosis.

Effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on the contralateral non-tumor-bearing breast assessed by diffuse optical tomography

Mirella L. Altoe et al.

Summary: This study evaluated changes in optically derived parameters in the contralateral non-tumor-bearing breast of breast cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy and found that these changes were associated with pathologic complete response after only 2-3 weeks of chemotherapy. Patients achieving pathologic complete response showed a significant decrease in ctO(2)Hb levels, while those who did not achieve it had non-significant changes. Additionally, there was a negative relationship between ctO(2)Hb levels and BMI and age.
