The Transformation of the Centrosome into the Basal Body: Similarities and Dissimilarities between Somatic and Male Germ Cells and Their Relevance for Male Fertility

Constanza Tapia Contreras et al.

Summary: The formation of the sperm tail is essential for the transmission of genetic material during spermatogenesis. It involves the reorganization of the male germ cell, including changes in the nucleus, formation of the acrosomal vesicle, and development of the sperm tail. The connecting piece between the sperm head and tail plays a crucial role in the overall structure of the sperm cell.

SUN5 Interacting With Nesprin3 Plays an Essential Role in Sperm Head-to-Tail Linkage: Research on Sun5 Gene Knockout Mice

Yunfei Zhang et al.

Summary: Acephalic spermatozoa syndrome is a rare genetic and reproductive disease, with SUN5 mutations found in approximately 33-47% of patients. Knockout of the Sun5 gene in mice resulted in broken head-to-tail linkage, similar to the human syndrome. Bioinformatic analysis and experimental evidence revealed that Sun5 interacts with Nesprin3 to play a crucial role in maintaining the connection between the head and tail of spermatozoa.
