Achieving optical phosphine sensitive h-BN nanosheets through transition metal doping

Kun Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of transition metal doping on enhancing the PH3 detection capacity of hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) using first-principle calculations. The results show that transition metal-doped BNNSs have significantly improved capability to adsorb PH3 and enhanced responses in electronic and optical properties.

Dynamic response of high-entropy alloys to ballistic impact

Yunqing Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ballistic resistances of two high-entropy alloys, CrMnFeCoNi and CrFeCoNi, and reveals that the presence of active dislocations generated at higher strain rates significantly contributes to their ability to resist high-speed deformation. The alloy with stronger atomic bonding and higher dislocation densities, CrFeCoNi, exhibits enhanced toughness and ballistic resistance compared to CrMnFeCoNi, which has weaker atomic bonding and is more prone to dislocation tangling.

Two-dimensional temperature distribution in FGM sectors with the power-law variation in radial and circumferential directions

Amin Amiri Delouei et al.

Summary: This study presents a steady-state analytical solution for two-dimensional heat conduction in cylindrical segments made of functionally graded materials, utilizing Fourier transform and separation of variables. Sturm-Liouville theory is employed to find adequate Fourier transformations, with continuous variations considered based on power-law functions and non-homogeneous boundary conditions applied. The mathematical robustness and generality of the solution, along with its verification through an illustrative example, are highlighted as primary advantages not often seen in prior literature.

Thermal transport at 6H-SiC/graphene buffer layer/GaN heterogeneous interface

Bing Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that growing graphene buffer layer on SiC can reduce interface thermal resistance through defect engineering, and the increase of nucleation areas and bonding of different nucleation zones will also affect heat transfer. Furthermore, a significant decrease in interface thermal resistance can be achieved with the increase in temperature.

Tailoring M7C3 carbide via electron work function-guided modification

Liqiu Guo et al.

Summary: This study uses atomic force microscopy in-situ analysis and first-principles calculations to show that the strength of M7C3 carbide is governed by its metallic bond component. It also theoretically proves that M7C3 carbide can be tailored by partially replacing its metallic elements with substitutes selected based on their work function. This insight into the electronic origin of carbide's mechanical behavior helps guide the development of high-performance M7C3 carbides.

Nano-tribological behavior of high-entropy alloys CrMnFeCoNi and CrFeCoNi under different conditions: A molecular dynamics study

Yunqing Tang et al.

Summary: High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have superior properties and high wear resistance, but further understanding of their responses to different wearing conditions is needed for effective utilization. Research on nano-wear and nano/micro-machining under different conditions is limited, affecting the extension of HEAs to nanotechnological areas. This study using molecular dynamics simulations provides insight into the nano-tribological behaviors of HEAs under different wearing conditions, helping to mitigate wear or improve machining efficiency.

Molecular dynamics simulations of thin-film evaporation: The influence of interfacial thermal resistance on a graphene-coated heated silicon substrate

Binjian Ma et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the transport behavior of liquid argon nanofilm evaporating on silicon surfaces coated with different layers of graphene using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The results showed that increasing layers of graphene coatings led to a significant increase in Kapitza resistance and a reduction in the evaporation rate. These findings emphasize the dominant role of interfacial thermal transport in the evaporation behavior of thin liquid films and provide guidelines for selecting new materials to improve evaporative cooling performance when designing nanoengineered surfaces.
